JSE ETF Returns in 2026 | Winners and Losers

The year is three-quarters done so we’re checking in on how the JSE-listed ETFs are doing, both active and passive.

Topping the list is still the broad AI/tech theme, which includes Emerging Markets as chip manufacturers dominate South Korea and that market dominates Emerging Markets (we wrote about this back in May – The Memory Boom: How South Korea Became the AI Trade You Didn’t Know You Owned). Japan is also finally having its day in the sun.

On the red side, it is PGMs and just last week we looked at opportunities in the sector (PGMs: the white metal, the dynamics, and the miners). India and China are also down at the bottom of the list as both continue to disappoint.

Realistically, nine months is not a true investment period, so we also include the five-year annualised return. We have also excluded ETFs that listed during 2026 as they don’t have full data.
